IDC Engineering has successfully assisted in the design of a purpose build pumping system. IDC’s focus was on the analysis of the pump driveline. The goal was to have the longest separation possible between the pump and the gearbox without requiring any intermediate supports. The pump assembly is lowered into the fluid, keeping the motor and gearbox above the liquid level and putting the intake of the pump down into the fluid. The pump inlet height is variable, causing the shafting to need to operate in air, fully submerged in fluid, or anywhere in between. The shaft to drive the pump is hollow, which makes submerged analysis much more critical. The initial design was modified per IDC’s analysis and the system operated successfully on its initial trial.
