Reciprocating compressor packages have aggressive torque characteristics which make them prime candidates for torsional failures.
A variety of measurements can be taken depending upon the nature of the problem – torsional amplitudes across the coupling, amplitudes at the compressor free end, or torsional levels in the electric motor shaft or engine driving the system.
If torsional resonances are not at the speeds predicted by the torsional simulation then the inputs to the simulation model can be adjusted to correlate it to the test data.
Appropriate modifications to the system can then be determined using the correlated model.
